44 “Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the covenant law with them in the wilderness. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen. 45 After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David, 46 who enjoyed God’s favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. 47 But it was Solomon who built a house for him.
God restrains us by making his will known to us. So if we have received his commandment and then turn aside, either to the right or to the left, we are doubly guilty. The servant who known his master’s will and does not do it will be punished more severely. This is the first sign that the Holy Spirit distinguishes all corrupt worship from true and sincere worship.
It is unlawful for us to invent patterns of our own; all our senses must be fixed on the pattern God shows us, so that all our religion may be formed by it.
