悔改 Repent

Acts 2:37-39

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Lessons Learn

Forgiveness of sins is grounded in Christ alone. However, baptism is the seal by which he confirms this benefit to us. As baptism is the down-payment and pledge of our adoption, it is correctly said to be given to us for the forgiveness of our sins.

We do not receive the gift of Holy Spirit in order to speak in tongues or to be prophets or to heal the sick or to perform miracles. It is given to us for a better purpose: so that we may believe with righteousness in our hearts and make a true confession about being saved, so that we may pass from death to life, so that we who were poor and empty may be rich and may withstand the world and Satan.

We must always remember that we cannot know God’s will except through his Word. But it is not enough to have the Word in general; it must be applied to us.
