徒 Acts 16:1-3
1 Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek. 2 The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. 3 Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
Here we must note three stages.
First, the ceremonies of the law were abolished by the coming of Christ so that they no longer applied to the worship of God; nor did they represent spiritual things; nor was there any necessity to use them.
Second, they might be used freely until the truth of the Gospel was more apparent. In the third, it was not lawful for believers to retain them except when their use served to edify and did not foster superstition.
So it was lawful for Paul to circumcise Timothy, but it would not have been lawful for him to offer a sacrifice for sin.
