19 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
From this we see how people are much more inclined to superstition than to the true worship of God, and how arrogant superstition is in always wanting to play the chief part in the worship of God.
Christ not only commands his ministers to teach but also to exhort. Pastors must not, therefore, think that they have done their duty when they have trained their people well with true knowledge, unless they also devote themselves to this task. And believers must not neglect the Word of God as if reading and preaching it were unnecessary; there is no one who does not need continual confirmation.
