徒 Acts 14:4-7
4 The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. 5 There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. 6 But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, 7 where they continued to preach the gospel.
It is wretched to see people divided against each other, but it is evil unity that gives us peace with the world but separates us all from God; it would be better for a few to depart from everyone else a hundred times if they then return to God’s favor.
This is the right kind of fear, when Christ’s servants do not choose to run into the hands of their duty. Fear does not stop them from obeying God when he calls, and so they can afford, if need be, to go through death itself to do their duty.
