23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one.
When we pray, our prayers are only acceptable to God when we rely on his promises and power, when we pray in certain hope to receive what we are praying for. There is no other basis for confidence than coming to God and trusting that he is ready and able to help us.
We also note that we should consider the creation of the world so that we may realize that everything is subject to God and ruled by his will and that when the world has done what it may, nothing happens other than what God decrees.
The teaching also helps us not to be overcome by all the fears we have. Also, we must take care that we do not hold holy teaching in contempt, in case we set ourselves up against God and destroy ourselves.
