22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
The Spiritually blind will be deceived by counterfeit miracles, but those who have pure hearts recognize God with the pure eyes of their minds as often as he shows himself.
We know that God never does anything for no reason, and from this it follows that there was a good reason for Christ’s suffering. It is God’s purpose for us to be subjected to death for our sins, and Christ’s blood was the price of our death. God’s providence teaches us that our life and death are in his hands.
The scriptures exercise our faith so that we may know that we are protected by God’s hand against attacks from Satan and wicked people. Again, nobody obeys God unless he knows God’s will; so obedience is dependent on knowing God’s will.
